Seems everyone at work has been suffering from sinus headaches and allergies lately so I decided to run a profitable niche report on headache.

“migraine headache symptom” has the highest KEI with 1,643 searches and only 747 search results matching. Compare this with “chronic headache” that has 1,628 searches and 222,000 search results. The demand is the same for each phrase, however the supply is saturated for the later.

 Profitability looks very good as well for “migraine headache symptom”. Advertisers are paying $14.11 - $17.64 per click. Even if your not monetizing with adsense this is still a valuable indication because those advertisers do their research and testing and have found that people searching for “migraine headache symptom” are likely to purchase their product.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but for the benefit of new readers I want to point out that just because a keyword or phrase is profitable does not mean it is a good niche. Look at the image above and notice that headache has 32,959 searches. The number of pages matching it is over 28 million!

As you can tell by my balding head, I don’t know much about preventing hair loss So when I first saw this “hair loss organin” I actually thought it might be a typo.

Ok, it’s not a typo. It surprises me there are only 2 competitors bidding for that niche. On one hand you may say “there are only 4,336 searches”…but look how few of pages matching that search!

Google had only 1,960 matches for that search! No wonder the KEI is so high.

With Christmas approaching Lycos 50 shows “Christmas Presents” at #9 and climbing I thought I would do some research on that and see what opportunities were there. As of today all key phrases found are saturated (KEI under 100). So I expanded it to use just Christmas. Now this is more promising.

PS: I will check back on the “Christmas Present” as I suspect the number of searches will climb at a high rate, faster than the pages to fulfill those requests, resulting in an rapidly increasing KEI.

Dogpile is a meta search engine (searches multiple sites at once) and you can see a filtered (family friendly) or unfiltered scrolling list of search terms entered by their users. Dogpile is one of the engines used by Wordtracker for their search count data.

Yahoo! Buzz

Yahoo also provides you with Top Movers (search terms for which there have been a notable increase in popularity within the last day), Top Leaders (top searches of all times) and some interesting articles.
