As its name indicates, fantasy football isn't real; more specifically, it's a fantasy sports game that lets individuals create their own fantasy teams based on real professional football players and play in a fantasy league of their own. How Teams Compete Participants or owners of fantasy football teams will either compete weekly against specific teams and who gets further based on the number of games they've won or teams fight against each other and those with the highest number of points throughout the season get to move to the succeeding rounds. Fantasy Football Leagues Novice team owners should choose carefully which league they'll play in. Generally speaking, leagues are often made up of teams from just one type of football division (NFL or NCAA). A league may be composed of eight to fourteen teams. With a redraft league, owners start from scratch and build their teams by drafting players. In a keeper league, owners can keep a small predetermined number of players they had in their roster last season. In a dynastic league, owners can keep as many of their former players on their roster. Drafting In drafts, available players may be mostly rookies (as in the case of dynasty leagues), free agents, or those for trading. A league may prevent a player from having more than one owner. There are two kinds of drafting formats: auctions and serpentine. In an auction format, owners have imaginary budgets and which they use to bid on players. In a serpentine format, players who get to be the first pick in even rounds will be the last in odd rounds. Trading Players Depending on the rules, owners may bulk up their teams with available players in the middle of the season. A deadline for trading players may be set to prevent teams from helping other teams win by trading with them players that could give the latter a better fighting advantage. Team Members Teams are allowed to have a specified number of members. They should also indicate early on which players would serve as starters and which would be serving from the bench. Of course, benched players are allowed to become starters provided a league-approved reason is provided. Scoring In most cases, fantasy football teams will always score points every time they make a pass, rush, and receive yards. They also typically lose points when they commit a turnover and occasionally for missing kicks. Lastly, field goals are also rewarded with points while bonuses are provided for outstanding performances.
