By: David Riewe

For mere love of the game, many people are now engaging in fantasy football. Even if they can't literally be a part of the game, they can manage to pour their hearts and enthusiasm by creating teams and managing players just like the typical football games.

This particular game provides opportunities to football fanatics to participate actively in professional football by managing a team of their own and engage in competitions just like a typical football competition. The only difference is that competition isn't actual and physical.

The competition is more of a point-based system, wherein the current rank and status or simply the statistics of the players correspond to a certain point value. The team with the highest points wins.

Getting Started

Before playing in NFL season, you must create your own pool players first. Just like the managers in an actual football team, fantasy football participants, known as owners manage to draft their own team or league of real-life players meaning outside the realm of virtual reality.

In drafting, owners can recruit players from the NFL every year. These players remain in possession to their respective leagues or teams unless they have been traded or dropped, from which the latter would make them free agents.

The main rule for drafting players is that no two owners or team can claim one player. Although some leagues allow this kind of arrangement, most leagues regard this as something that must be followed strictly.

Players who weren't drafted become free agents or part of the free agent pool. This means that they aren't exclusively part of any team and remain free for any team to recruit. In this way, owners can easily replace their current drafted players with those from the free agent pool hoping to improve their teams current standing.

However, this doesn't necessarily mean that teams can easily pick players from the free agent pool any time they want. Owners have to undergo a fantasy football waiver system for players in the free agent pool. This refers to the process of choosing players from free agent pool, wherein they can claim a particular player through waiver wire order. Though, they can only claim the player completely after the waivers is cleared.

In fantasy football the waiver system for players in the free agent pool, the team that has the higher waiver priority will be given top priority upon clearance of the waiver.

Owners must abide by the rules and must strategically choose their players to ensure victory.
